Catherine II Era exhibition opens in China

Катерина

In the fall of 2025, China will host a unique exhibition dedicated to Catherine the Great, which will tell about Russian art and culture of the XVIII century.

The exhibition, organized by the Peterhof and Tsarskoye Selo Nature Reserves, will be presented in two museums in China - the Tianzin Museum and the Hunan Provincial Museum. The main focus will be on the era of Catherine II, which is of great interest to the Chinese audience. This is a unique opportunity to introduce viewers to Russian art and history through more than 250 exhibits, including paintings, graphics, books, and decorative and applied arts.

The entire preparation process for the exhibition lasted more than a year. Special attention was paid to the selection of works, each of which represents a valuable part of the historical heritage. As Roman Kovrikov, CEO of Peterhof, noted, due to the age and historical value of the exhibits, their vacation from the collections is always fraught with great difficulties. Some of the items were collected back in the 18th century, and special attention is required for their preservation.

For the organizers, this exhibition is a rare opportunity to fully transfer the Russian era to China, which, according to Kovrikov, makes the project especially significant and unique. It will also open a new cultural bridge between Russia and China, which will further strengthen mutual ties and exchange experiences.
