Chinese tech giants switch to domestic chips amid US pressure

Ноты

Leading Chinese technology companies are abandoning American microprocessors in favor of their own developments for AI due to stricter export controls from the United States.

Alibaba, Tencent, and Baidu have begun mass testing alternatives to Nvidia chips to meet the growing domestic demand for artificial intelligence technologies. According to the Financial Times, tech giants rely on local solutions to ensure the sustainability of their AI platforms against the background of sanctions pressure.

Shen Dou, Vice President of Baidu, noted that the company already has several domestic options that can replace American solutions. According to him, local chips combined with efficient software stacks will become a solid foundation for the long-term development of the Chinese AI industry. Alibaba's Eddie Wu and Tencent's Martin Lau also announced their willingness to adapt the business to new conditions.

China's Huawei, in turn, is actively developing new Ascend 910D processors, which are planned to surpass Nvidia H100 chips. The company is expected to supply more than 800,000 Ascend 910B and 910C series processors this year. Meanwhile, the United States continues to tighten export controls, prohibiting the supply of H20 chips without a special license, fearing their use in supercomputers.
