China has strongly protested the US intention to revoke the visas of a number of Chinese students. This was stated by the official representative of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Mao Ning, stressing that Beijing has already sent an official submission to Washington on this issue.
Mao Ning noted that the American authorities are acting for ideological reasons, hiding behind national security issues. According to her, such steps not only have no grounds, but also seriously infringe on the legitimate rights of Chinese citizens, violating the principles of international cooperation.
According to Beijing, these measures hinder normal cultural and humanitarian exchange between the two countries. Mao Ning also stressed that such political discrimination casts doubt on the sincerity of the US statements about its commitment to freedom and openness, damaging its international reputation.
