The performance took place in the Shenzhen Concert Hall and became a significant event within the framework of the cross-Cultural Years of Russia and China. The program included fragments from the ballet The Nutcracker and Tchaikovsky's Sixth Symphony, performed in honor of the 185th anniversary of the composer's birth. The audience warmly welcomed the performance, noting the high skill of the orchestra.
The Mariinsky Theatre's tour in China will continue with two more concerts in Shenzhen on May 25: a daytime performance of Prokofiev's symphonic tale "Peter and the Wolf" and an evening gala concert by opera soloists. Special attention is paid to the participation of young artists representing the new generation of the Russian stage.
Speaking at a press conference, Valery Gergiev emphasized the long-standing cultural ties between Russia and China, recalling the first tours in Shanghai and Beijing in 1998. According to him, creative cooperation with Chinese cities continues and is reaching a new level, encompassing more and more teams and venues.
