At the opening of the VIII Forum of the Volga–Yangtze Association of Universities, held in Kazan, Igor Komarov, the Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of Russia in the Volga Federal District, said that today about 60 universities of the district interact with more than 220 Chinese universities. 240 agreements and contracts have already been concluded within the framework of this partnership. He stressed that such contacts contribute to strengthening humanitarian ties between the two countries.
According to Komarov, in 2024, almost 4,000 students from China studied in the educational institutions of the district. Students from China still make up a significant proportion of all international students in the region. The authorities expect a further increase in the number of students due to the expansion of educational programs and exchanges.
The Volga–Yangtze format remains a key area in strengthening academic ties. In particular, 37 universities of the Volga Federal District have established partnerships with more than 50 universities from Chinese provinces located along the upper and middle reaches of the Yangtze River. This cooperation includes both academic exchange and joint research projects.
