According to Trump, important agreements were reached at the talks in Switzerland that could lead to a mutually beneficial deal. He considers the possibility of American business entering the Chinese market to be his main achievement. He noted that the agreement will boost economic growth in both countries.
Trump also allowed personal talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping, although, in his opinion, this may not be necessary. He expressed hope for the successful completion of the process and called the deal potentially historic. According to him, the parties are close to creating a sustainable model of economic cooperation.
Despite the optimism, the final terms of the agreement are still being discussed. The United States and China had previously exchanged drastic measures — mutual tariff increases, but after negotiations on May 10-11 in Switzerland, the parties agreed to begin reducing them from May 14, 2025. This decision is seen as a step towards stabilizing trade relations between the world's largest economies.
