Speaking at a meeting of the foreign ministers of the BRICS countries in Rio de Janeiro, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi called on the association to strengthen pragmatic cooperation. He stressed the importance of completing the establishment of the BRICS Vaccine Research and development center, implementing the food security strategy, as well as exploring new areas, from deep—sea projects to research in the Arctic and outer space.
China, according to the minister, is ready to expand cooperation with BRICS partners in poverty eradication, agricultural development, education, healthcare and other socially significant areas. Wang Yi expressed his willingness to support comprehensive programs that promote the sustainable development of the participating countries.
The head of Chinese diplomacy paid special attention to security issues. He stressed the need to intensify the work of the BRICS working group on combating terrorism, strengthen the exchange of experience between intelligence agencies and promote cooperation between law enforcement agencies of the countries of the association.
