Yu Jiadong, Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Security of the People's Republic of China, said at a briefing that the increase in customs tariffs by the Donald Trump administration had a negative impact on the employment situation in the country. According to him, high duties have complicated the work of a number of foreign trade companies, which has led to difficulties in the labor market and increased pressure on employment.
Despite the increasing external impact, the Chinese authorities note that in the first quarter of 2025, it was possible to maintain an overall balance in the field of employment. According to Yu Jiadong, 3.08 million new jobs were created in urban areas during this period, an increase of 50,000 compared to the same period in 2024. He also stressed that special attention is paid to the employment of university graduates, migrants and former military personnel, which helps to mitigate the negative effects of external economic factors.
Yu Jiadong added that in accordance with the policy of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the plans of the State Council, the government of the country will continue to actively work to expand employment and increase the stability of the labor market. The authorities intend to strengthen support for enterprises, stimulate the creation of new jobs, and develop professional training and retraining programs to minimize the impact of external shocks on the economy and increase employment stability.
