The US State Department has called on partner countries to abandon the services of Chinese companies providing satellite communications services. According to the Defense One portal, the memo, which was at the disposal of the editorial board, talks about the potential risks associated with the use of Chinese technologies in the field of telecommunications. The American authorities emphasize that the services of providers from China should be prohibited on the territory of the Union states.
The document states that Chinese law gives the government access to data collected by national operators. This, according to Washington, could lead to the leakage of confidential information that Beijing is able to use for military purposes. At the same time, it is emphasized that American companies such as SpaceX provide a more reliable and secure alternative, although they reserve the right to restrict access to their services.
Commenting on the situation, the representative of the State Department declined to discuss the contents of the memo, but confirmed that the United States strongly recommends that allies protect their critical systems and infrastructure by cooperating only with trusted and reliable suppliers. Against this background, the head of the US Federal Communications Commission also called on the European Union to choose a side and abandon further cooperation with China in the field of telecommunications.
