According to the supervisory authority, the deputy head of the General Customs Administration of the People's Republic of China, Sun Yuning, was stripped of his position and membership in the Chinese Communist Party. During the investigation, which has been conducted since September 2024, it turned out that he did not perform his official duties properly and interfered in the distribution of public funds.
The former official accepted expensive gifts in exchange for helping third parties. Sun Yuting also used sexual services, using his official position and money, the CPC Central Commission said. His illegal income will be confiscated, and the case will be transferred to the prosecutor's office for further criminal prosecution.
According to the commission, in 2024, investigations were initiated against 58 high-ranking officials due to disciplinary violations. The fight against corruption in China has intensified since Xi Jinping came to power in 2012. In recent years, about 5 million people have been deprived of their posts and received prison sentences.
