The Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China has filed a lawsuit with the WTO over new US duties on Chinese goods

This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China.

According to the ministry, the United States has once again raised duties on Chinese goods. Unilateral US tariff measures seriously violate WTO rules and undermine the basis of trade and economic cooperation between the countries, the Ministry of Commerce said.

China was forced to use the dispute resolution mechanism of the World Trade Organization. Beijing intends to protect its legitimate rights and interests, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce said in a statement. They noted that such measures create serious obstacles to international trade.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump signed a decree on increasing duties on Chinese goods from 10% to 20%. This was done due to the fact that Beijing allegedly is not taking enough measures to combat the smuggling of the synthetic opioid fentanyl into the United States.
