According to the publication, from January 29 to February 4, more than 9.4 thousand flights were operated from the airports of Meilan, Phoenix and Boao in the cities of Haikou, Sanya and Qionghai. This happened because of the "golden week", the Lunar New Year weekend.
3.6 thousand and 466 flights were operated through Phoenix and Boao airports, their passenger traffic amounted to 692 thousand and 64 thousand passengers, respectively. As for Meilan Airport, it performed more than 5.4 thousand flights during the specified period, while serving 857 thousand passengers.
At all three airports, measures were taken in advance to optimize capacity, as well as to predict, analyze and assess flight congestion trends. The Lunar New Year began on the night of January 28-29. The "golden week" of the weekend ended on February 4.
