Starting on February 11, five specialty stores will open in the key cities of the province — Haikou, Sanya and Danzhou, where the local population will be able to buy imported goods without paying duties. This is a practical implementation of the new free trade port policy aimed at ensuring that residents directly experience the benefits of the island's special economic status.
Chinese citizens with local registration or permanent residence in Hainan, as well as foreign specialists with a residence permit, are entitled to make purchases using the duty free system. They have an annual quota of 10,000 yuan (about 1,437 US dollars) for the purchase of a wide range of goods, from food and beverages to household chemicals and goods for mother and child.
This project has become a logical development of the already existing large-scale network of duty-free shops for tourists on the island. It aims to increase the consumer attractiveness and quality of life in Hainan, strengthening its status not only as a global resort, but also as a promising area for work and permanent residence.
